Today I took a massive jump forward, on a problem I’ve been working on for months.
I didn’t plan to get to the solution so soon.
I thought it would take me at least 9-12 months to get there.
But it did happen and it’s one of those moments when you realize everything is coming together.
So I’ve decided to write this post to share my thesis, on how to get faster to these moments, that only happen once in a while, but that can really jump your career forward.
The beautiful thing about them, is that when they do happen, you know exactly what you’re experiencing.
For a few months I’ve been trying to work out some inefficiencies in my business.
Inefficiencies are easy to detect, because when we’re inefficient, we usually underperform.
But the solution is often not as apparent…
You may have a thesis for why you’re being inefficient, or not getting the results you want, but you’re most likely wrong.
And that’s fine.
I am wrong all the time, it’s part of being a human being trying to figure out a difficult task.
The best way I know to fix this problem fast, is by getting a ton of exposure to new curated ideas.
Trying to come up with the solution just using your own imagination, is quite an inefficient process.
You might get there, but in my experience, it just takes a lot longer and with tons of mistakes.
Let’s start by defining what is a curated idea.
Well, at the very basic level, it’s an idea that has been filtered.
The filter I like to use, is to only listen to advice from people that have achieved exactly the thing I want to achieve.
There’s tons of noise out there, from people claiming to know the solution to all of your problems, when themselves never had to fix them.
So how they can help you?
They can’t.
It’s all noise.
As a researcher in markets, I try to find signal from a sea of noise, that is also my job when I want to get better at something.
Find the people that have achieved what you want.
And listen to everything they have to say in:
Books
Youtube videos
Podcasts
Interviews
Blogs
Anything you can get your hands on.
But we all have our own daily activities, and we can’t just sit around reading books right?
One of my tactics is to use efficiently all the time I am doing low stakes tasks, that don’t require my full mental attention.
A few examples are:
Working out at the gym
Going for a run or a walk
Cooking
Cleaning the house
If I put these activities all together, they probably sum up to 3-4 hours a day.
If I am listening to music, or doing nothing with that time, it’s literally money down the drain.
And I don’t like wasting money, and even less my time.
So I just listen to all of this content around the problem I want to fix.
Most of the times, the solutions won’t be apparent right away, .
But you got to keep at it, in the expectation that, if you aggregate all of this knowledge, over time, it will compound into a beautiful solution.
For example, the problem I started this post with.
I’ve been listening to this one topic, probably since March or April, gathering all the information I could.
Every bit of new information that makes sense, that I didn’t know, I’d add it to a database of notes.
Tiny bits of information every day.
Nothing ever too significant.
Up until 2-3 days ago, where everything just culminated into this master piece, that is the perfect solution for my problem.
And when I finally realized it, everything clicked.
Like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders.
It seems like I’ve upgraded a new level, just from that discovery.
And that was only achieved by putting all of this accumulated knowledge together, acting on it, and watching the results unfold.
And that is my message for today.
The solution to your problem is not in a book, a podcast or a youtube video.
It’s in an aggregate of material, that you carefully curate and study, on a daily basis.
By trying to get a bit better every day, even if a small % better than yesterday, you won’t see immediate results.
But eventually…
You will get to your “aha” moment, just due to the sheer volume of knowledge you’ve accumulated from people actually doing the thing you want to do.
If you want my help with all the “aha” moments I’ve gathered over the years trading the markets, and studying 100’s of trading strategies…
We help individuals and enterprises, implement and deploy strategy portfolios, tailored to their specific needs.
If you want to discuss the possibility of working with me:
If not, still I hope you take as much value as you can from my articles, and that one day, I can hear about your own “aha” moment!
See you tomorrow!
